We had a customer recently who called us about a dead tree in his backyard. Obviously, he wanted us to remove it, but what we didn’t know at the time was how long that tree had been dead. As it turns out, it should have been removed three years ago.
Three years! In that time, the tree became brittle and less flexible — not to mention all the extra diseases and insects on it.
Moral of the story: If you have a dead tree, remove it sooner rather than later.
Now’s the Time To Remove That Dead Tree
There’s never a bad time to remove unsightly and dangerous tree limbs (or entire trees) that are decaying, dead, or damaged by dangerous temperatures and storms. Even the best trees fall victim to disease, insects, and Mother Nature. And when this happens, the prudent thing to do is remove that dead tree sooner rather than later.
Waiting actually causes a world of problems, including making it more difficult for tree service professionals like us to remove them. Granted, we can remove any tree — all we’re saying is that the process is a bit harder.
Here are three reasons why you shouldn’t wait to remove dead trees:
Dead trees are more likely to fall over — As a dead tree begins to decompose, its structural integrity cannot be trusted. One minute, it’s standing tall and looking sad, and then the next, it’s cracking and falling over on your roof or a nearby car. All it takes is a light breeze or some light snow to topple a dead tree that’s been left in the ground too long.
Dead trees are difficult to remove — As previously mentioned, our client above had a dead tree that was so dead that it was incredibly brittle and less flexible by the time we got to it. This turned what could have been a quick tree removal job into a longer process to ensure we didn’t cause damage to nearby structures unintentionally.
Dead trees spread disease — Leaving a dead tree to fester in your yard creates a breeding ground for insects and disease. When this happens, those same diseases and insects can spread to nearby trees and bushes and infect them, too.
